I have used TPF Software's z/IDE and ALCS GI development tools for the last 3 years on various projects whilst working here at Air NZ. Having experienced a variety of main-frame debuggers/IDEs in my years contracting at various airline sites, I can confidently recommend these 2 tools for any prospective client. It provides a stable, easy to use, S/390 development framework and really comes into its own with lesser experienced developers — once you're accustomed to using these tools you would never want to go back to SST and TSO...

zIDE has certainly changed they way I code. Being a developer who uses advanced IDE's such as eclipse and Visual Studio, its great to be able to use an Editor that behaves similarly. It's the little things like copy and pasting, inserting text etc, that you don't often think when using the product, but notice greatly when going back to a traditional assembler editing environment.

ZIDE is also a faster editing and compilation tool. The ability to cut and paste and to have keywords highlighted is a bonus as is the quicker identification & resolution of any problems highlighted during compilation.
I've been tracing with ALCS/GI for a long time and find it an invaluable trace tool providing much more flexibility than before. The usage of the source listing to drive the ability to dynamically apply program stops, to display macros & provide values of selected fields is extremely useful. I didn't realise how much I'd come to depend on ALCS/GI until it wasn't available and in comparison I then found the old trace tool slow, cumbersome and frustrating as I needed to recall and apply all the trace entry formats again.
